Fire Damage Dry Ice Cleaning

Fire Damage Dry Ice Cleaning safely removes soot, smoke, and residue from surfaces without water or chemicals, restoring affected areas with minimal disruption.

After fire damage, it is natural to want to dive into the restoration process and start with step number one — calling someone for help! Not so fast. Understand that this is a perilous and emotional time when personal and building contents have been affected. A specialist returning highlights as close to the original condition may ease doubt that some things cannot be restored satisfactorily. Fire-cleaned dry ice can very effectively deodorise the home after it has suffered from a fire. Instead of using any chemicals or other products that might mask the smell in the house, blasted dry ice kills off the bacteria that can cause the smell.

Why? The fancy technological name for dry ice is solidified CO2. Now, why does that matter? The cool thing about solidified CO2 is that it turns directly into gas whenever it gets warm enough. This process is called sublimation. It's excellent for cleaning several surfaces safely and quickly when used at high pressure. Dry ice blasting uses solid CO2, which turns into gas upon impact with surfaces otherwise damaged by non-environmentally friendly cleaning with sand, chemicals, or non-eco-friendly methods. Dry ice is also suitable for animals and children since it sits on the ground and is entirely non-toxic.

Rapid Fire Damage Restoration through Dry Ice Blasting

After a fire in your home, the roof, windows, doors, walls, fabric, and more will likely be smeared with soot and other carbon deposits. After a fire in your home or business, cleaning up the fire damage can be a traumatic experience. Unfortunately, that process isn’t made any easier by the cleaning methods that were used years ago, leaving walls, ceilings, floors, furniture, architectural woodwork, and windows with soot deposits that wouldn’t budge. In many fire situations, energy-efficient, heavily insulated buildings are often victims of thermal expansion, causing soot to penetrate walls, even passing through a vapour barrier intact. Structures with air conditioning would also have forced air blowing throughout the building, recirculating soot and spreading damage throughout the home or building. Throughout the chemical reaction process, soot surfaces often produce toxic compounds, are sensitive to temperature, and could damage any remaining thermoplastic surfaces.

To avoid larger demolition projects after a fire, cleaning fire residue promptly and effectively is essential. Effective cleaning will remove the harmful by-products of fire: soot, ash, and toxic residues from burnt materials on walls, ceilings, carpets, windows, doors, and HVAC systems. Conducting pre- and post-cleaning tests is the key to responsible, non-destructive fire restoration. Dry ice blasting is a rapidly growing, environmentally responsible, and time-saving restoration option. Using non-abrasive cleaning with dry ice, the dry ice blasting turns to gas after impacting the surfaces being cleaned, producing a significant volume increase after the effects. The explosive release penetrates and causes the bonding between the surfaces to break down, forcing the soot to pop away from substrates, including electrical components, providing a deep cleaning without secondary waste or additional cleanup. The expended dry ice sublimates, leaving behind no spent blasting media to dispose of and no solvents, abrasives, chemicals, or other harmful substances to burn and force contaminants into the environment.
